Description:
Robert Winston is a thirty-seven year old Caucasian male of American and Canadian descent. He is tall and bulky, standing at roughly 6'0" and weighing in around 198 lbs consistently. Robert's facial features include brown, short-length hair, dark green eyes, and a short full beard. Generally, his hair is known to be fairly unkempt, or easily messed up. He has a scar on the left side of his jaw, which prevents his beard from growing to the same length in that particular patch, and tends to be slightly shorter than the rest of his beard. Robert's skin is somewhat tanned, as a result of a majority of his jobs taking place outdoors. He is commonly noted to fit a stereotypical depiction of a lumberjack.
Clothing-wise, Robert is typically known to wear a black G3 combat shirt and G3 combat pants with knee-pads. In accordance with environmental necessities, he also frequently wears an M50 Joint Service General Purpose Mask (JSGPM) and an All-Purpose Isolation Suit (APIS), typically worn as an undergarment beneath standard operating uniform. When not utilizing a gas mask, Robert is known to frequently cover the lower half of his face with a bandana or shemagh, and cover his eyes using ESS goggles. Depending on the nature of the operation, Robert will also occasionally swap out his combat uniform for something somewhat more casual, such as a softshell jacket paired with a pair of jeans or cargo pants.
Off-duty, Robert's clothing tends to be significantly more civillian, and notably simple. His outfits tend to consist of a plain colored t-shirt or long sleeve shirt, occasionally a pullover hoodie, softshell jacket, or open flannels, and longer pants such as jeans, cargos, and joggers. Robert is also known to frequently wear a variation of hats when going off-site, which he appears to have a large collection of in his personal quarters.
Psychological Profile
Personality:
By nature, Robert is a generally reserved individual. Outwardly, he is often noted to be calm, and does not seem to actively seek out social interaction with others. However, the few people who have had the oppurtunity to properly speak to and get to know Robert often describe him as someone who is open, perceptive, and kind. With forced interactions, Robert has proven to be someone who is quickly able to make friends with people, which tends to evolve into lasting relationships rather than becoming friendly acquaintances. Many have described him to have a fairly uplifting personality, and find his general sense of resilience in the face of the world to be inspiring.
When it comes to fieldwork, Robert is level-headed and objective focused, always aware of what needs to be done, and how to do it. His ability to physically and emotionally adapt to almost any situation he is presented with, as well as his general aura of confidence, he has proven to be a good leader for those who may struggle, especially within environments related to Foundation operations. While usually a good feature, Robert's sense of selflessness is one that the Foundation would prefer to do without - as he is often recorded making rash or otherwise self-detrimental decisions for the sake of others.
While medically and mentally in good condition upon being brought into the Foundation, Robert has had many experiences that have proven to develop medical conditions that tend to affect his mood. Dysthymia (or "persistent depressive disorder") is one such medical condition that is often linked to his tendency to bury himself in work, or otherwise isolate himself entirely. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder often causes Robert to link current events to events from the past, giving him flashbacks and high levels of anxiety. Additionally, an anomalous medical condition that Robert suffers from appears to be directly linked to his PTSD, giving him a percieved "coldness" in his right arm when suffering from post-traumatic symptoms. The only medical condition Robert struggled with prior to joining the Foundation is his Inattentive ADHD, which tends to make him somewhat forgetful, easily distracted, or struggle with sleep.
Strengths:
Optimistic
Robert is a glass-half full kind of person, both in relation to people and the outcomes of difficult situations. He generally believes that people are born good, and forced in the direction of percieved "evil". In regards to difficulties in life, both social and work-related, Robert keeps his head up, and is generally a beacon of hope for those around him. He firmly believes in making the most of what one can in a situation, and can objectively look at the benefits or positives, even in tough spots.
Adaptable
Working in multiple jobs that require the ability recieve, comprehend, and plan for new situations, Robert has become a notably adaptable person in most aspects of his life. This includes things like combat, nature survival, and directional awareness - but it also includes more mundane things, such as social activity.
Fair Mediator
Robert is a firm believer in mediation and objectivity. When people have problems, he always has his head on him to hear the voices of both sides, and assist them with their problems from an objective, unbiased standpoint.
Natural Leader
Confidence, resilience, empathy, the ability to inspire - these are just some of the qualities of a leader. Whether Robert recognizes it or not, they are also qualities with which he holds, making him a valuable asset to the Foundation as a whole.
Weaknesses:
Reclusive
As someone who struggles with a variety of psychological medical conditions, it's not hard to recognize that Robert has a tendency to avoid social exposure, especially in close proximity to mentally/emotionally challenging incidents. As a result of this, it is also significantly more difficult to provide assistance when issues arise.
Nostalgic
Robert is easily affected by nostalgia, and the idea of "how things used to be". While in some cases, this can be a good way for one to indulge themselves in memories that make them happy, it also acts as an obstacle for someone dealing with change, especially in a social environment.
Can't Say "No"
Robert tends to fail in recognizing when he has bitten off more than he can chew, and will repeatedly take on more responsibilities, even when already being crushed by the weight of other responsibilities related to his own job, and others.
Fears:
Autophobia - The irrational fear of being, or what could possibly happen to oneself, when alone. Intense enough that even staying on the thought long enough may actively cause anxiety, stress, and potentially even nauseousness.
Arachnophobia - An extreme and irrational fear of spiders or other creatures resembling or belonging to the Class Arachnida.
Needles - While not exactly a phobia, Robert suffers from a generalized fear of needles. Most specifically, those used in a medical or otherwise drug-related setting.
History1
Pre-Foundation History (1986-2015)
Robert Edward Winston was born on July 15th, 1986, to two parents in Athens, Ohio. His father (Mixed American) was a mechanic, and his mother (second generation Canadian immigrant) was a nurse. They both had a notable desire for their child to be succesful, both educationally and within their future career, resorting to a strict parenting style and restrictive social life for the sake of his education. Robert attended pre-school, Elementary School, and High School all within Athens until the age of eighteen. Upon graduation, following his parent's wishes to have him stay nearby, he moved on to study Computer Engineering at the University of Ohio. Here, he spent a significant amount of time studying various forms of electronic-based sciences, including Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, and Cryptography. While studying, Robert had picked up a part-time job in Construction (three years) shortly after acquiring his Associates degree. Shortly after acquiring his Bachelor's Degree, he moved on to working as a Computer Programmer (three years). At age twenty-six, Robert was laid off during a major unemployment wave, and forced to find something else to do after having acquired his Master's Degree. Unable to find a stable job, and needing something to hold him over, Robert ended up working as a Park Ranger in Wayne National Forest for the United States National Forest Service. While the job was one that Robert found fulfilling, it was unfortunately a position that was only need temporarily, and he would find himself out of a job after a year. Frustrated with his bad luck in the work force, he eventually resorted to joining the local military. For him, this would happen to be the 16th Engineer Brigade of the U.S. National Guard of Ohio. After two years of service he was introduced to Security Director Logan Malkoy, a previous member of the Navy SEALs who was then serving as the Site-01-CA2 Security Director. Quickly becoming close friends, Robert was eventually invited to join the Foundation as a Security Guard at age twenty-nine.
Early Foundation History (2015-2018)
Robert spent a total of approximately six months serving as Security within Site-01-CA. During this time, the Foundation determined that Site Director "Valkyrie" was a bad fit for the organization as a whole, especially following Incident "Confirm Chaos". From that point forward, the Site-01-CA project was handled remotely, mainly operating based on the ideas and innovations of the local personnel who had not yet been exposed to standard Foundation operating procedure. As a result of this, the D+ Program was started.3 A few weeks following the implementation of the program, Robert would become (legally) romantically involved with D+1043, Rebecca Kelly. It would also be around this time that Robert would meet Dr. Hedy Fuchs4, though this first meeting would be wiped shortly after the end of the Site-01-CA Project due to security concerns. His relationship with D+1043 would come to a quick end, only about two months in length, following a Chaos Insurgency raid on the facility, which also marked the official end of the Site-01-CA Project. Despite the clear mental stress this incident put on him, Robert was granted the ability to not be treated with amnestics. With the end of the Project, he was transferred to Site-36-NA, a facility located in Illinois, and continued to work as a Security Guard. A short few months in, Site-36 experienced Incident "Daedelus"5, in which Robert proved himself to be a competent combatant and overall a good fit for the Task Force Department, being temporarily slotted into MTF Nu-7 "Hammer Down" until a more fitting Task Force could be determined. After a second incident occured involving the same anomaly, Zeta-9 Commander Hollis would recruit Robert directly into her squad due to his clear expertise in navigating topographically unstable locations. He continued working with Zeta-9 for roughly a year before the eventual appearance of SCP-1730 within Big Bend Ranch State Park - which their Zeta-9 squad would eventually be tasked to explore in 2016 following three previous failed exploration attempts. Robert, alongside Z-9 "Willow", would be the only Zeta-9 operatives to survive the exploration and recovery process. A significant amount of consideration was put into what would be done with the surviving members of Hollis' squad, and Robert was eventually reassigned with a new job - building and commanding Site-27's Zeta-9 forces.
Modern Foundation History (2018-Present)
On November 27th, 2018, Site-27 experienced a power failure, resulting in a mass containment breach and was unable to hail Foundation assets for assistance. Personnel were evacuated, and the site was detonated, now referred to as Incident-27-X. Robert's Zeta-9 forces were the main leading force in the recovery process of important information and surviving personnel/anomalies, all of which was eventually transferred to the nearby Site-33, located underneath Crater Lake, Oregon. Robert would continue to operate as the Zeta-9 Commander within Site-33. During his time in Oregon, Zeta-9 became a major asset in many operations, and is generally regarded as the busiest period in Robert's life. Some notable events for Robert include an operation resulting in temporary amnesia, the loss of seven Zeta-9 operatives during Operation "Tunnel Rats", combat engagement with SCP-1529, and an inexplicable reappearance of SCP-1730. He was also briefly romantically involved with Z-9 operative Ella North, who was later determined to be KIA during Operation "Vindicta". Once again, despite the emotional damage this loss had, Robert was able to avoid amnestic treatment. It was also here that Robert would once again meet Dr. Hedy Fuchs. However, as with before, this meeting was removed as a result of the security concern that this researcher posed due to their general prominence within the Foundation, and their subsequent abandonment of the Foundation as a whole. Due to the significant losses that Zeta-9 experienced in the later days of Site-33, as well as the drop in anomalous locations to explore in the area, the Task Force remained largely stagnant for an extended period of time. When this was finally noted by higher ups within the Foundation, the Zeta-9 branch of Site-33 was closed, and Robert was transferred to Site-19 as a Senior Operative in order to promote competition for the Commander position for the Task Force. Since being transferred, Robert has participated in a significant amount of landmark operations for the Site-19 Zeta-9 branch, and is now the currently acting Commander once again.
Addendum
Anomalous Abilities:
Robert suffers from a physical anomalous condition directly correlated with and activated by his Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. The condition unconsciously produces an excess of epinephrine and cortisol within his right arm, but does not seem to flow regularly through his blood stream. This excess causes a percieved "coldness" localized only within his right arm.
In particularly intense instances, Robert's arm has formed a bluish hue, similar to that of a cartoonish depiction of one's extremities being cold, freezing over, or experiencing frostbite. During these instances, microscopic sections of Robert's blood have been found to freeze entirely. With these findings, it is believed that Robert could theoretically experience frostbite if exposed to PTSD-activating stimuli for extended periods of time, or if he were to experience a particularly bad episode.
This condition was recorded to have started after an engagement with SCP-1529 during Operation "Glacier King" α.

Footnotes
1. A complete list of all Operations and Incidents Robert has participated in can be found here.
2. Site-01-CA was a small, prototype facility located in the west Canadian mountains, designed for the purpose of testing experimental facility operations. The project was officially concluded following a major Chaos Insurgency raid, and the facility was subsequently demolished.
3. The D+ Program was an experimental program led by Dr. Caitlyn Kaede for the facility they were stationed on. This was in response to a mass amount of D-Class on-site having been acquired wrongfully or being generally well-behaved. It aimed to provide more humane treatment for D-Class that met the requirements. The program was abandoned alongside the demolition of the facility.
4. Dr. Hedy Fuchs is now considered a major security risk, and therefore has been scrubbed from most Foundation personnel's memories.
5. Incident in which SCP-TOPO gained control of the facility, warping its topographical layout and stability.
