Description: Lyra Morgan is a twenty-four year old Caucasian female of Portlandser and Swiss descent. She is short and light, standing at roughly 5'4" and weighing in around 110 lbs consistently. Lyra's notable facial features include light brown, mid-length hair, hazel eyes, and a lasting light blush on her cheeks. She is generally very expressive, making her emotional state easy to read by simply looking at her face. Her skin is fairly pale, and prefers to burn rather than tan when exposed to sun.
While she does wear contacts, Lyra occasionally wears a pair of rounded glasses, claiming that wearing her contacts for too many days in a row gives her a headache. Additionally, her left ear is pierced. While she doesn't always wear earrings, when she does, it is always a small brown feather that sits close to the lobe.
Clothing-wise, Lyra can be most commonly found wearing a pair of cargo pants, a white shirt, and a standard Foundation lab coat while on duty. However, in some instances, she will wear a tan, orange, and black flightsuit (including gloves)- an outfit she used when doing paranormal investigations for her school's club. The flight suit is based on those seen in the "Ghostbusters" franchise, and handmade by Lyra herself with the purpose of avoiding ectoplasmic residue (also a concept popularized by the Ghostbusters movies). This suit is generally only worn when she is conducting phasmology research.
Off-duty, Lyra has a somewhat extensive wardrobe, though the sense of style is consistent with modern clothing habits. She will also sometimes wear a hat, mainly when she wishes to put her hair up, that has the text "Paranormal Investigator" stitched on it.
Psychological Profile
Personality: Lyra is an incredibly excitable and eccentric individual. Those who have interacted with her generally report that she is somewhat hyper, and a bit of a fanatic when it comes to her work and personal interests. She is known to be friendly, and is often comfortable even with people she is not familiar with. If not pushed away by her fanaticism, Lyra is capable of turning strangers into friends quickly. She tends to be somewhat sarcastic, and has a good sense of humor. During times of general hardship, Lyra stands to be the light in the room, often uplifting the moods of those around her.
Lyra is also, very clearly, incredibly curious. She poses questions for herself, and aims to answer all of them. Those who engage in intellectual conversation with her are often surprised by the amount of knowledge she has not just in her own field, but in other fields that she doesn't actively study as well.
Strengths:
Naturally Curious
Lyra has never believed in curiosity killing the cat, because how could you ever know the cat was dead without opening the box? Every corner of life, and the lack thereof, is something Lyra believes must be explored.
Optimistic
Lyra is a glass half-full kind of person, both in relation to people and phenomena. She remains hopeful about the future, and believes that good generally prevails over concieved "evil".
Open-Minded
As a person who has opened themselves up to believe in the paranormal and supernatural even before being involved with the Foundation, it's not hard to believe that Lyra doesn't have a hard time believing in newly introduced concepts and ideas.
Weaknesses:
Impulsive
Lyra is known to be an overeager person, and therefore struggles with making impulsive decisions, leaving little room for future planning or general forethought.
Gullible
As someone who has been quick to believe in paranormal activity, generally sees people as inherently good, and (somewhat) recently introduced to the world of the anomalous- Lyra is quick to take the words of others as truth, believing that nothing is really impossible.
Frivolous
Lyra lacks any semblance of seriousness. Rather, she is excitable, carefree, and sarcastic. While this may be good for her mental health, it is a hurdle she needs to deal with, especially within her professional life.
Fears:
- Automatonophobia
- Entomophobia
- Philophobia
- Lilapsophobia
History
Lyra Morgan was born to Edward Morgan (Three Portlands native) and Eva Weber (first generation Swiss immigrant) within Three Portlands. Despite being born in the anomalous enclave, Lyra's parents decided it would be best for her to lead a "normal" life, outside of the veil entirely. Settling in Augusta, Maine, she grew and continued through elementary school, having absolutely no awareness of Three Portlands and anything behind the Veil. Despite this, she began to naturally develop a keen interest in horror and online "Creepypasta'' stories. She continued to foster this interest, eventually embracing the idea of the (comparatively mundane) concepts of the Supernatural and their existence, such as Ghosts, Aliens, and the like.
Shortly after starting High School, Lyra helped create her school's "Paranormal Investigations" club, as well as began utilizing the ParaWatch Wiki on a regular basis. She would act as the President of the Paranormal Investigations club, and became a notably prominent user within the ParaWatch community, posting under the username "MoreOutThere" until her senior year of high school.
Sometime during her senior year, Lyra experienced a rare psychological phenomenon known as a "Dissociative fugue", in which she was reported missing after not returning home from school. A full week after being reported missing, Lyra called her parents from a gas station worker's phone, somehow across the country in California. Similarly to other famous cases in which one experiences a dissociative fugue, she had no memory of the entire week prior to her disappearance, and investigators could not figure out how she managed to cross the entire country, given that she did not have her wallet or any method of paying for transportation. Rightfully, the whole ordeal scared her parents, who feared that Lyra may have some anomalous capacity due to where she had been born, and decided it would be safer for them to return to Three Portlands. As a part of moving back to Three Portlands, Lyra was forced to discontinue use of the ParaWatch wiki.1
Within Three Portlands Lyra was exposed to the world behind the veil, and able to explore the world of the "supernatural" which she had fallen in love with before being able to confirm its existence. Of course, wanting to continue her education while in 3P, she attended Deer College, where she would begin a double major in Parapsychology and Cryptozoology. She would study from the age eighteen until graduating with a PhD in both sciences at age twenty-four.
The Foundation, well aware of Lyra's existence due to both her prominence on the ParaWatch wiki and her presence within Three Portlands, saw her graduation as an opportunity to fill the void of a dwindling section of Foundational sciences. She was quickly approached by recruiters following her graduation, and accepted their job offer. As of now, Lyra works as a Junior. Researcher within the Esoteric Division, actively studying Phasmology, Cryptozoology, Mythology, and Folkloristics.
