ITEM NAME:
EMag-1 Shield & Baseplate
CATEGORY:
Combat
Production Information
Faction: SCP Foundation
Manufacturing Body: Zeta-9 Commander Robert E. Winston
Cost of Production: Including the cost of a ballistic shield base, the necassary electromagnetic components, and the necessary wiring/other computer systems, the entire unit (Shield + Baseplate) costs roughly $7,500 in total, not including labor costs.
Production Time: Handmade, takes between half a month to a full month depending on how compatible the base of your shield is with the necassary electronic systems. Theoretically, the process could take a minimum of one week using proper E&M facilities.
Scale of Production: This is a singular unit, initially designed and modified by Dr. Hedy Fuchs of the Site-33 Research & Development Department. There is no current plan for future production of this model.
Item Description
Appearance: Visually speaking, there is nothing outwardly special about either the ballistic shield or the baseplate. The ballistic shield is black in color, has a 2x3 grid front-facing internal flashlight, and a large ballistic window for enhanced visual capability. The rear facing grip handle has two selection switches. The first switch controls the power to, and functionality of the shield’s flashlight, offering the options of “Off”, “On”, and “Strobe”. The second switch allows the user to toggle the internal electromagnet and toggle the power to the EMag-1 baseplate, for easy storage on one’s body.
The baseplate is a three-inch thick electromagnetic disc, small enough to be inserted in the rear section of a ballistic vest or an outer pocket of a backpack. It has a small, manual selection switch on the side of the device, but is mainly meant to be toggled via it’s wireless connection to the ballistic shield.
Properties: The EMag-1 Ballistic Shield is equipped with a front-facing internal flashlight on a 2x3 grid, which can be toggled off and on for high/low light combat conditions, as well as a disorienting strobe light for close quarters combat. It has two pouches for additional pistol magazines, and has a protection rating of III+. The center internal section of the ballistic shield has an electromagnet for use in tandem with the EMag-1 Baseplate. The secondary switch on the shield's handle allows for the user to toggle on the interior electromagnet, as well as wirelessly toggle the EMag-1 baseplate to be quickly storeed on and disconnected from one's back.
The EMag-1 Baseplate is a simple electromagnetic disc, housing a wireless reciever to communicate directly with the EMag-1 Ballistic Shield. It's only function is to provide an adjustable and toggleable area to store the EMag-1 Ballistic Shield while not in use.
Usage: The EMag-1 Ballistic Shield and Baseplate are designed to be used in long-form combat situations, making the usage of a ballistic shield viable by providing an on-body storage option, similar to that of a holster or sling for a weapon. The front mounted light is a powerful addition both to serve as making the user capable of acting as a pointman in dark spaces, as well as acting as a disorienting strobe light to help the user in close-quarters combat.
Relevant Research: The EMag-1 Ballistic Shield & Baseplate make use of already existing technologies, and are made possible by use of repurposing, rewiring, and some amount of electronic/computer engineering.
